This class will be held at Utah State University Eastern, , 451 East 400 North, Price, Utah

West Instruction Building, room 107, first floor

I will have 2 experienced leather workers and chapmakers assisting me in class.

This is a, how to build a basic pair of shotgun chaps, one color (unless you bring a contrasting color for fringe), no lacing, no pockets, no extras. You will learn how to take measurements, draft a pattern for those measurements, and apply them to build a pair. If you are building them for someone else, you’ll need to get ahold of me at least 3 weeks before the class for instructions on how to measure so I can send you a template for the yokes. If you would like to stamp or tool your yokes, you’ll need to get ahold of me right when you sign up or at least 3 weeks before the class. If you are leaving them plain, I will provide latigo leather for you to cut them out at the venue, or you can bring veg-tan to do this. If you bring your own, you’ll need to bring the supplies to edge, oil and finish the leather, NO DYES.

Tools and supplies you will need to bring to class, these WILL NOT be provided;

-LARGE cutting mat, cutting tools such as a rotary cutter, head knife, utility knife, tape measure, a 6 x 24” OMNI Quilters Grid, smaller straight edge for cutting fringe, pencils, leather marking tool like a white pen or tailors chalk marker, thread burner, adhesive, (Renia Aquilim 315 is suggested) ½” wide double-sided tape, a good brand that is sticky

Depending on your size or who you are building for, 1 – 2 sides of leather, at least 26 square feet or more. Suggested Leather are from the Hide House in Napa, California; Glovetan, Arizona, Cheyenne or Grizzly. Any other leathers I won’t be responsible for how they work. I am going to heavily suggest you pick one out of these 4 leathers.

I will be providing drafting paper, zippers, front belt buckles, thread, rivets and a pattern pack with a full set of instructions.

Class will be held from 8 – 5 each day, please bring snacks, lunch and your own beverages.
